I have a DIY dye phobia. Not irrational in the slightest judging by accidental black hair and leopard print spots with home highlighting.
Rather daunted by a full isle of dye in Boots, I somehow opted for the new Nice 'n Easy foam dye (£6.99). The shade '8c Medium Champagne BLONDE' in an attempt to match my roots.
The process was simple, but with my phobia, not sure the magnitude of questions being fired at the chum, chief dye assistant, were appreciated;
What if it falls out?
What if it goes black?
What if it goes ginger?
Is it meant to smell so strong?
The process was relatively pain free - in emotional terms we're talking. Instructions were read thoroughly and despite forgoing the strand test and allergy test I followed them to the word. Foam was mixed;
Applied to head;
Have you ever tried to take a picture of the back of your head?
Not the easiest task.
Not the easiest task.
It seemed to be taking after five minutes, but I was forced to wait twenty three minutes - couldn't bare the final two minute countdown - before rinsing it off.
The water ran clear, I applied the conditioner which smelt delish, but had to wait another two minutes for the results. After a blast with the hairdryer the colour was revealed;

Feeling the MySpace days here.
Not as brown as I'd hope and I now have a crowning glory of strawberry blonde, but it's growing on me. I'm not a fan of the ashy ends, but with bleach being the base for the dye, I wasn't expecting much. I'm contemplating going darker, but I'm still not over this DIY thing...
Have you got any home hair dye disasters to share?

I think your hair looks gorgeous :) I really want to try the whole ombre trend but worried about doing it at home! x
ReplyDeleteyour hair looks lovely xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely, really suits you!
ReplyDeleteI have a hair dye disaster to admit... I wanted to darken my hair a little bit, so i chose a dark brown colour from my local Boots, the colour match on the box looked fine. However when i applied the colour and waited for it to develop, i then washed the dye off and was left with jet black hair! :O I don't know what went wrong, it was awful!
The next day i had to go to the hairdressers so they could strip the black out of my hair, which cost about £75 i think. Madness!
I've heard when choosing a colour, you shouldn't go more than 2 shades up/down of your normal hair colour. So i keep this in mind when choosing a new DIY dye kit!
Sorry for the essay style post, haha! xx
your new hair colour is gorgeous!
