Babyliss Waving Wand

I've been on a mission to find the perfect hair tool since I found out what a hair tool was. Having really thin, naturally straight hair creates quite the challenge to find something to keep curls/waves in tact for longer than a couple of hours.

The Babyliss Waving Wand is nearing perfection and after seeing it on Vivianna Does Makeup I tracked it down in the Boots sale for around £20.

Unlike other wands I've used, this barrel is an squashed oval shape, which is what gives the wave more than a curl. Some pieces initially hold a curl but it drops almost immediately. There is no clamp which makes it a lot quicker and easier to wave.

It has four heat settings, of which I use the highest, 200 °C. It heats up just as fast as GHD straighteners, it's ready to use almost immediately. The red light will flash then remain constant once it's fully heated.

This is the nearest I've come to the beachy waves I crave. It still doesn't have great staying power, but the looser the curl, the less it's going to last! I section my hair off to do it in layers and it takes about 10 minutes for my whole head to have waves, but I pretty much always go back in to add more waves throughout so it bumps it up to 15 minutes.

Here's the type of thing you can expect;

For some reason my right hand side is always significantly neater and looks a lot more done. I guess practice will eventually make perfect and I'm just trying out all the different heat settings to find which works less.

Regardless, this hair tool is going to be in my collection for a lot longer than others that haven't measured up to my picky high standards.

Do you have any ultimate hair tool recommendations?

  1. I should probably really part with my ancient curling wand and upgrade to something new!

  2. I love this, your hair looks stunning! I have the Babyliss conical wand (the red one) and I find that really good on my naturally dead straight hair, though it doesn't last as long as I'd want even with tonnes of hairspray!

    1. I've tried conical wands before and they generally hold the curl better but it's always too much of a curl, not enough wave!

  3. Curls never last in my hair and by the end of the day I am left with limp hair but this looks like it could work. I've read loads of reviews and its sounds pretty decent. Maybe its time to take the purse out!! :)x

  5. ooo this looks good, I used one of the BIG barral tongs to try & get more lose waves, but they just fall out so easy, so this is an option- as are the big 3 waver thingys- but they look huge!
    Very pretty hair xx

    1. I want to try the 3 barrel wavers, but I think it would give me more of a crimp since my hair is so thin.

  6. Gorgeous curls, I really want to get a clampless curling iron like this one. I have major problems with my hair falling out too, it just can't hold a curl, so annoying! x
